Fresh funds for Falls Creek MTB Trails
Falls Creek have secured $500k for future mountain bike trails - here's to summer 20/21!
Falls Creek has become one of the most versatile mountain bike parks in Australia, with shuttle options matched with backcountry excursions, accommodation right on the trails, and descents all the way down to Mt Beauty. Last week, Falls Creek announced it will be receiving a Regional Infrastructure Grant of $500,000 for the Stage 5 development of the Falls Creek Mountain Bike Park.
Right now there are 40km of purpose-built gravity and cross-country trails, and this funding will see the expansion of the Falls Creek Mountain Bike Park to include a further 11km of flow and technical trails to complement what’s already on the ground.
“The Falls Creek Mountain Bike Park is designed to appeal to a wide range of mountain bike riders from beginner to expert,” said Stuart Smythe, Falls Creek Resort Management CEO. “Increasing the number of trails will add a new sense of excitement to park and entice riders near and far to test their lungs and skills in this magnificent alpine terrain”
The bushfires in at the beginning of the year had a devestating impact on summer visitation, closely followed by the Victorian Government’s declared state of emergency many of the local businesses have been severely impacted with little to no tourism to the region since the beginning of January 2020. After updates from the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, everyone is crossing their fingers that this summer will allow us all to visit the trails up in the High Country around Falls Creek.
Chair of the Falls Creek Board, Jo Shannon extended her thanks to the State Government. “Their support as we recover from the bushfires is imperative and assists us greatly in implementing the Board’s strategy and increasing year-round visitation and tourism to resort and surround North East region”.
Falls Creek Resort and the Alpine National Park is closed to visitors during the current restrictions level’s in Victoria. The resort looks forward to welcoming visitors back once the Chief Health Officer deems it safe to do so and current restrictions ease.
