Santa Cruz bring back the Blur
The Blur is back, and Santa Cruz are part of the wave of manufacturers making cool bikes for XC again.
The Santa Cruz Blur is back! The versatile dual suspension bike that wowed XC and trail riders alike from its introduction in 2004 has returned to the Santa Cruz stable.
The new Santa Cruz Blur combines the VPP (Virutal Pivot Point) suspension with frame design and geometry requirements of a modern XC bike. The Blur's main frame is stuff, has ample room for two bottle s(one above and one below the bottom bracket) and sports a 69 degree head angle and long reach.
The carbon fibre swingarm has Boost spacing, short 432mm chainstays and activates 100mm of rear travel. While the Hightower seems close at 110mm they are a different bike, with the Hightower optimised for forks with 120-130mm of travel, and the capability of taking Plus wheels. The Blue is built around 29er hoops.
With a frame and hardware weight of a little over 2kg, the Blur has beend esigned to meet the accelration and handling needs of those striving for XC performance. Remote lock outs on the build kits facilitate this along with the efficiency of the VPP design.
But, the bike is still built to be fun, and the handling promotes finding your limit! The Blur is one of many XC bikes being rejigged to move their handling from overly nervous to fast and efficient, matching the needs and demands of both modern XC racing and endurance events in rad places, like BC Bike Race, the Swiss Epic, Hellfire Cup and more.
The Blur looks like a solid return of an XC bike to Santa Cruz's line up – something that has otherwise been missing of late.
