TESTED: Velocio Men's bike clothing

With modern designs, a refined fit and put together by clothing artisans in Italy - the Velocio clothing has been quick to find fans in Australia. We've had our crew put the Velocio men's ES jersey and Luxe bib shorts to test.

It's fair to say Velocio are past the fledgling stage of cycling apparel brands. Now in their third year of business, they've steadily built a reputation for cycling apparel that puts them at the high quality end of the diaspora of kit makers.

The ES Jersey is part of a concise range of jerseys. This short-sleeved tunic provides a figure hugging pro fit, certainly in the size small we tested.

Made from multiple panels the front and rear of the jersey features a soft, breathable fabric. This is finished in a subtle geometric pattern which is something of a hat tip to the plethora of camouflage laden kits on the market.

One of the most pleasing aspects of this jersey are the sleeves. This may seem an odd feature to hone in on, however their extended length and lightweight mesh give the jersey real pro feel. Features such as these echo design cues featured in the pro peloton. The mesh itself is comfortable and extremely breathable.

Another neat feature of the jersey is a water resistant pocket which is neatly hidden beneath the 3 rear pockets. It's a feature that indicates few corners have been cut in designing the top.

Velocio Luxe bib shorts

Launched at the end of last year, the Luxe bib short is Velocio's premier riding short. Constructed from a highly durable but plush fabric, the company has done everything they can to ensure the comfort of these bibs.

Seams have been positioned on the front and rear of the shorts; carefully away from areas of rubbing (i.e. the inner leg). Wide elastic grippers provide an even purchase on the skin, and a high density chamois offers a comfy perch on your saddle. The Luxe's broad elasticised straps are an elegant touch, crossing over at the rear, providing more room to air to flow and keep you cool.

Sizing plays an important role in comfort. Manufactured in Italy, it should be noted that these are firm bib shorts. I'm slender, but even I found the small test size super squeezy to get on. Once on, however, the firm fit restricts any sort of movement that may lead to chafing. The womens model features a rear zip to make getting into them, and toilet stops, simpler.

Truly premium items, the ES jersey and Luxe bib shorts combine to create an elegant pairing. At AU$209 and AU$329, respectively, they're not cheap, but if you care about your comfort on the bike, they'll be an investment towards many happy kilometres of riding.
