TESTED: Giro Revel Helmet

The Giro Revel helmet is low on cost, but high on features and comfort.

Giro is a brand that has been strong in the helmet market for decades and has always delivered great value and good quality helmets. The Giro Revel is an entry level helmet in price but offers some great styling and great fit for the fraction of the price of other helmets on the market

The quality of the helmet built is what you would expect from Giro, but more so from a more expensive offering. The adjustable strap is strong and tightens to the head excellently, the pads in the helmet are minimal and therefore less prone to falling apart which is nice. The helmet wasn’t completely polished like a more expensive model, with a few imperfections in the foam but at $79.95 this did not phase me at all.

Would a helmet on a budget though hold up and keep in place for many hours in the saddle? I was worried with how the fit would go after some solid time on the bike especially with ventilation and comfort.

The fit of the helmet is great and again for the price I was amazed, using models usually towards the higher end of the spectrum the fit still felt familiar and with a solid strap did not move around on the ride at all. Coming from one of the more ventilated offerings on the market I was impressed by how much ventilation the helmet did have, though it could have more in the summer months at this time of the year it was perfect. The addition of the visor was nice, not too large but still offered a nice covering of the face.

The only down side from the ventilation holes was there was not any great places to hold my sunglasses when taken off, this is really a minor thing but still an aspect you would see on a more expensive helmet.
