FIRST LOOK: Bell Super 2R helmet

The Bell Super 2R has been designed to bring the benefits of an XC and a DH helmet together into one versatile lid. We've just got one to play with, so let's find out.

We have just had the new Bell Super 2R helmet land in the office, and it’s one we’ve been waiting on – along with the rest of Australia.

The Super 2R has been designed to meet the needs of all-mountain riding, and given what that means in Australia, it looks pretty spot on. Their aim was to let you hit any trail challenge with confidence. The removable chin guard means that you can have the dental insurance policy, or opt out and run the open face, but still with more rear coverage than a regular XC lid.

The guard is easy to remove and doesn’t need tools, so it’s easy to stow it on or in your bag on climbs or just for mellow trails on the way to something harder. We don’t really have the long climbs and long descents of North America or Europe, but we can see that this would be handy for hitting some trail destinations like Atherton or Buller where there are some sections you’d like to let loose on.

The Super 2R was designed for progressive trail riding, for riders who expect the lightweight performance of XC equipment combined with the confidence and stability of DH gear. The Super 2R is said to offer both.

We’ve got the MIPS model on test, and will have a full review in a coming issue.

RRP: $319.95 for the MIPS model.

What is MIPS anyway?
