Nestled high in the Adelaide Hills, yet only 12km south-east of the CDB, Eagle Park provides a perfect place for the fat tyre enthusiast to hit some high-quality, flowing trails to push their physical and technical abilities.

Eagle Park boasts 21km of marked, mapped and signposted trails that weave in, out, up and down through valleys and ridges that make up the Mount Lofty Ranges, which rise above the Adelaide CBD.

Getting There

Adelaide’s grid system of flat CBD streets makes it an extremely easy city to navigate either by car or bike. The trailhead is technically at Leawood Gardens.

From the CBD, the 12km journey will take approximately 20 minutes. Although only 12km from the CBD, if this will be your first visit to Eagle Park, driving up is highly recommended for most bikers, you are best off saving your energy for the ascents within the MTB Park.

Technical Nature

Eagle Park’s steep-sided valleys and descending ridges make a perfect aspect for its intermediate and advanced cross-country network and technical downhill course.

Note. Although incredibly good fun for the accomplished rider, these trails are not for everyone.

A fit mountainbiker with room to improve in the skills department, commuter or road cyclist will struggle on the technical singletrails both uphill and down, due to loose surface (summer only), sometimes off-camber trail, tight switchbacks and rocky trail sections.

You’ll Need

Creature comfort facilities at Eagle Park are sparse, it’s all about the riding anyway, eh? So, bring all of the essentials with you, ie water, spare tube, food, camera and tools.

Distances

Ride distances in Eagle Park can range from 1km loop trails up to riding the complete 21km of trail in one session.

Local Knowledge

Have a printed map in hand if you are heading up for the first time or don’t have a local as a guide.

It is generally more enjoyable to take a little longer first time around on your chosen trail route and know that you have made all of the correct turns at trail intersections – especially because trail direction, names or numbering system are not always evident here.

Best Time of Year

Year round daylight hours trail access. Unless fire bans are in place.
