On September 1st 2013, Greg Minnaar achieved his dream of winning the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in his hometown of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

gregwinGreg’s victory marks his third World Championship gold, and the fourth World Championship title for the Santa Cruz Syndicate team.

“I’m over the moon to win this race!” says Greg.  ”Ever since Pietermartizburg was announced as the Worlds venue back in 2011, there was a lot of pressure on me to win here and I did my best to handle it.””We set out with a solid strategy and stuck to it; from the training and racing program, through to the bike design, set-up and kit selection.”He adds: “The fans were unreal and when I got towards the bottom I could hear the cheering and I dug as deep as I possibly could. After Stevie crashed, and Gee’s splits were slower I knew I’d won. Peaty was the first to congratulate me and then the OneLife crew took over from there. I can’t thank everyone enough for all the help and support; from family and friends, to Rob from Santa Cruz, my Syndicate family, and all the Syndicate sponsors that helped us win this together.”

“Greg’s shown amazing mental strength in the build up to this race” said Rob Roskopp, Santa Cruz Syndicate team owner.”Even going back to the season opener at Sea Otter, Greg stuck with his V10 while others experimented with different bike designs and wheel sizes.  He knew what he needed to win the Worlds and stuck with it from day one.  To stay so focused on one objective for so long is incredible.  He deserves everything he’s achieved.”
