The 2023 National MTB Championship events have a lot of breathing room. The cross-country events are running now, with Downhill and Pump Track (and Trials) next week. This is easier for just about everyone involved, allowing events to be a little more spread out. After eMTB, Adaptive and Team Relay events on Day 1, and the XCC (short track) on Day 2, today was all about age group XCO racing, and Thredbo and the nation's riders put on a show.

In Expert men Sam Krajnik showed the rest a clean set of heels, while Craig Hutton took the win in Masters 1 men. Benny Allen won Masters 2 men with lightning fast lap times, but not as fast as Adrian Jackson who won Masters 3 men, in front of Murray Spink and Jarrod Moroni. This was the largest field for the day with 17 finishers.

In Masters 4, Rohin Adams scraped in ahead of Peter Milostic, and in Masters 5 Minter Barnard took a strong win from a strong field. Brett Kellet won Masters 6 while Scott McLennan took the big W in Masters 7. In Masters 8 Trevor Britten took a decisive win and Roger Cull did the same in Masters 9. Myles Higgins was the sole entrant in Masters 10, and a desrved winner. Hopefully more of us can be part of the action when we are 77, like Myles.

Age group women took off later in the day, and Hannah Lee-Young was the sole racer in Expert women and Lucie Blom was the sole Masters 2 woman, while Claire Aubrey won Masters 3. Nina Wright won Masters 4 ahead of defending champ Meaghan Stanton.

Lisa Dodds won Masters 5 while Emma Colson used her experience to take the win in Masters 6. Sharon Heap won another title, this time in Masters 7, with bev Anderson winning Masters 8.

Tomorrow U13 through to Elite will be hitting the race course – so watch this space or follow the results link for live updates. Better yet – head to SBS On Demand for live coverage.
