Jackson Goldstone’s Red Bull Hardline return turns to gold

Jackson Goldstone claims victory at Red Bull Hardline Tasmania 2025

Anna Beck 08.02.2025

Canadian phenom, Jackson Goldstone, has taken out the top step of Red Bull Hardline in Maydena, Tas in a time of 3:17.096, 0.233 seconds ahead of up and coming rider Asa Vermette (USA) with Australian Troy Brosnan in third.

The win marks Goldstone’s return to racing after a crash in 2024, describing the win as “probably one of the biggest moments in my life”.

It was another win for team Canada, with rider Gracey Hemstreet taking the win in the women’s category, making it two-for-two at the Maydena Hardline event. Hemstreet was the only woman to make it to the startline on race day, after the demanding course took out competitors leading into the finals. Despite this, the women’s field continues to gain strength at the Red Bull Hardline events.

How it unfolded

Charlie Hatton (GBR) was first down the hill, setting a cracking time of 3:26.697. He sat pretty in the hot seat while Josh Bryceland (GBR), Australian legend Sam Hill and Great Britain’s Matt Jones completed their runs, Jones celebrating with a backflip on the last gap jump. It wasn’t until several riders later when Sebastian Holguin (COL) finally snatched the top step, taking over three seconds from Hatton’s time with 3:23:388.

Laurie Greenland (GBR) couldn’t quite match the speed of Holguin, but nudged out Hatton for second – just – with a time of 3:26:667.

The places began to topple, as Tuhoto-Ariki Pene went faster again, then Bernard Kerr knocked Pene from the hot seat.

With four riders remaining, South Australian Troy Brosnan was the first rider to go under 3:20 with 3:19.479, a time that fellow South Australian, Connor Fearon, chased hard to beat. Fearon was close, but no cigar, finishing behind Kerr. This resulted in a Brosnan, Kerr and Fearon virtual podium.

Seeding second behind Asa Vermette, Jackson Goldstone began his run with startling speed, gaining time on Brosnan on every split as he pumped the trail and whipped between the trees. A lightning quick 3:17:096 couldn’t be beaten by the final rider on course, Vermette, who finished a third of a second back in 3:17:329.

Highlights

  • Australian GOAT Sam Hill getting amongst it with the young pups on the hardline course, working his magic on some stealth lines displayed by the Aussie contingent
  • Matt Jones throwing a backflip on the final jump
  • Gracey Hemstreet owning the 80ft gap on the course, taking her second win at Red Bull Hardline in Maydena
  • Troy Brosnan is back, baby! If his win in Mont-Sainte-Anne wasn’t confirmation, this surely is.

Lowlights

  • Dan Booker was on a scorcher until he landed a rear flat on the final set of jumps. Flats: thumbs down!
  • George Brannigan (NZ) was also hooking until a small slide out on the key section saw him lose significant time, he still slid into 11th (small drum emoji)
