TESTED: Tineli Australis Socks
The most notable feature of the Tineli socks is how minimalist and light weight they are. You will be hard pressed to find another sock model this thin or breathable.
Nearing the start of summer, it was the perfect time to test Tineli’s socks in the Australis colourway (matchy-matchy with their Australis Trail jersey). These are left and right specific socks, designed to hug each foot perfectly. They have a compressive fit around the forefoot, with a slightly lighter fabric around the leg.
The most notable feature of the Tineli socks is how minimalist and light weight they are. You will be hard pressed to find another sock model this thin or breathable. The Tineli socks will definitely serve cross-country and gravel riders in the height of summer, or trail rides on sweltering days. However, I would opt for a thicker and more reinforced sock for gravity riding. Because the Tineli socks are so thin, I did find that my Shimano AM9 shoes were suddenly too roomy.
But the most important feature of any sock is its height, and the Australis socks do not disappoint. They sat just below the mid-point of my calf and stayed there. If wearing snugger XC or gravel shoes, these are an excellent summer-weight sock.
