Stage 3 of the 2018 Cape Epic was the longest of the race, at 122km. But that doesn't mean it's the Queen Stage, which will be stage 4's arduous route.

While Cannondale Factory Racing started with the leader's jerseys on their shoulders, all that would change. With marathon powerhouses Alban Lakata and Kristian Hynek of Canyon Topeak Factory Racing moving to the front, the Specialized pairing of Jaroslav Kulhavy and USA's Howard Grotts. Kulhavy did the majority of the work but when Grotts was unstuck in sand Lakata and Hynek took advantage and won the stage – however Kulhavy and Grotts moved into the lead, with Cannondale Factory Racing now in 2nd overall.

In the women's race much of the front group was together until the final third where Langvad and Courtney were able to get away. They had a small crash in sand but quickly got moving again.

3rd placed Annie Last and Mariske Strauss had a flat but managed to consolidate. Team Spur remain in 2nd place.
