The World Cup had a short break since the double-header in Leogang. The next two rounds are here, with short track (XCC), corss-country (XCO) and Downhill all at Lenzerheide, Switzerland this weekend.
Racing kicked off on Friday evening under a sunny sky. The short course stayed low on the hill, starting on the road before climbing through the lower arena, dropping into a jumps line and then ripping through a root littered trail on the edge of the forest – before doing it all again.
The women's race saw Romana Forcini leading at first before a small slip up, and Jenny Rissveds took contol. A group of 5 looked to watch each other for the race, except then Rissveds chose to attack them all. Having won plenty of races in Lenzerheide, she rode with confidence, gaining time on the climbs and descents.
Alessandra Keller chased, hard, and on the final lap was almost in contact, with Jolanda Neff in tow. And that's how the podium finished up.
Bec McConnell finished 11th, and maintains her lead in the XCC rankings (and XCO).
In the men's race, the field launched off the line and into the start loop. Alan Hatherly was quick to assert dominance, but he was just one of a number of riders keen to have their nose in the wind.
In time, Luca Schwarzbauer took on his position of ride leader, but the attacks came, and soon a Swiss trio were in the lead, with Swiss short track champ Filippo Colombo, Nino Schurter and Mathias Flueckiger duking it out.
Hatherly was chasing the Swissies, and at the line Colombo won the race with Flueckiger second and Hatherly in third.
