Through the lens: Australian Marathon Championships

The National Marathon Championships flew all the way to Townsville for the 2017 edition. A long way for some, but just about anyone who made the trip reckons it was certainly worth it.

The 2017 Australian Cross-Country Marathon (XCM) Championships were held at Cape Pallarenda, Townsville, on 29-30th April. A long hike for many, and a warm escape for others, the trails for the event were dry, loose and a whole lot of fun.

In one way, the bushland trails along the edge of the coral sea were quintessentially Australian. But still, others felt the dry and rocky riding overlooking an azure-blue sea had a Mediterranean feel – often as our coastal trails are either sand, or non-existant due to houses.
