Adidas Tycane Pro
In the world of sports sunglasses, the quality of the lens is everything. But then, so is appearance, fit and range of lenses too. And finding the right mix of all of those can prove difficult.
In the world of sports sunglasses, the quality of the lens is everything. But then, so is appearance, fit and range of lenses too. And finding the right mix of all of those can prove difficult.
Adidas Eyewear have a thorough range of sports (and casual) sunglasses. Their Evil Eye range is very popular amongst casual and competitive riders alike, given the broad coverage on offer from the lens shape, and coming in two different frame sizes, with countless lens tint options available.
The Tycane Pro is a new model for Adidas Eyewear. It’s a very lightweight set of glasses at just 20g, with a hydrophobic treatment on the broad coverage lens. The frame has adjustable arms and nose pads to make sure you get a secure fit. The material is flexible yet firm, and they sit very securely, thanks to the grip on the arms and nose pads. They come in two sizes for different head sizes, and the arms do wrap in for a tight fit, which might not suit all head shapes.
Pitched at water sports (hence the strap with float that comes in the case), the light weight and hydrophobic treatment on theTycane Pro lenses work very well offroad. Our set came with the LST (Light Stabilising Technology) Polarised lenses – which help cut glare. They are a darker lens, suitable for semi-shaded or full sun trail conditions. LST Active lenses are also available, which have a slightly brighter vision and might be preferable if you ride on the road too, as the polarised effect does make some tar seal road features look like slippery oil! That’s not a popular reaction for other riders around you. The lenses are easy to change, you just pop them out using the frame flex. No YouTube instructional video required!
In use and on the trail, the Tycane Pro sunglasses exhibit one of the best features of any component or accessory – I just didn’t think about them. They stayed in place even when dripping with sweat or from rain, the optics of the lenses were very sharp, and the peripheral vision was fantastic. The high curvature and broad spread of the lens shape meant nothing was obscured by the frame, which is very useful for any active sport. Sweat and rain did bead off the lens really well, meaning you can keep them on in grubby conditions.
If you’re a multisport athlete, these could be the set of performance eyewear you’re after.
