AMB Photo Awards presented by Shimano are open

The AMB Photo Awards presented by Shimano are back in 2023. Here's what you need to know.

Mike Blewitt 16.05.2023

The AMB Photography Awards are back again in 2023, as a platform to showcase the incredible talent of photographers and videographers in Australia and New Zealand.

As in previous years there will be four main categories. Each will have a winner, second and third place as voted by readers on a microsite from a short list put together by a judging panel. There will be an overall winner for the most complete portfolio, selected by a judging panel including pro photographer Tim Bardsley-Smith, and Mike Blewitt, AMB Editor.

  • Between the Tape
  • In Profile
  • Women who Ride
  • Adventure

All the category details and descriptions can be found on the AMB Photo Awards website.

You can enter any category as many times as you like, and if you enter each category, be sure to tick the box to be considered for the AMB Photographer of the Year title. If you are entering multiple times, make sure one complete entry really is your very best work. Entries close on August 21st at midnight AEST. This is a firm closing date.

The Photographer of the Year will win $3000 and a Shimano Deore XT 12-speed group set. Each category winner will win $500.

What do I need to do to enter?

Go to the AMB Photo Awards entry page. Make sure you have a photo to suit the category, and export it in a jpeg to smaller than 2Mb – keep the high resolution file on hand – you'll need it if you win! Upload the photo, and a caption. Tell us who is in the photo, and where. It's important you enter photos suitable to the category – you can read our descriptions to get an idea of what we are looking for – but get creative.

What about something for young photographers?

The youth category remains and is determined by being under 20 during the competition period. You have to enter your date of birth when submitting photos, so this is automatically calculated. Any category entry will be considered. This winner will also be chosen by public voting from a short list selected by our judges, and they'll win a Shimano SLX 12-speed group set!

Is there a video component to the AMB Photo Awards?

The Raw Reels category is back. What's required is in the name – raw sounds and in a reels format (vertical). You have a 90 second maximum but it doesn't need to be that long, it should be optimised for social media. We want you to capture being out riding and having fun. Let's hear the trail, the stoke and the natural environment we get to play in. All videos will be uploaded to our social media accounts to be shared, but the winner will be decided by our voting panel.

Enter your Raw Reel right here.

The winner of this category will win $500.

Can anyone enter the AMB Photography Awards?

Any Australian or New Zealand resident can enter the AMB Photo Awards. This includes past winners. The only people who cannot enter are permanent employees of Next Media (AMB's publisher) and Shimano Australia, as the primary sponsor of the awards. Photos can be taken in any part of the world, and we prefer to see recent photos.

You can only enter photos you have taken yourself, and they can't have a watermark on them. If you want to read all the terms and conditions, you will find them on the AMB Photo Awards website.

If you have any questions – make sure you read the FAQ section of the AMB Photo Awards website.
