After a week of rain dodging, the storm finally hit and it looked like for the first time ever that a Crankworx Slopestyle event would be either delayed or cancelled. Fortunately around midday the skies opened blue and grey and the sun dried out the course enough for the Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle to go ahead. Some athletes protested for a drier course but with 20 000 dollars on offer it would be hard to disuade riders with a possible advantage from abandoning.

With plenty of flair Brett Rheeder edged out big names like Brandon Semenuk for the win with a score of 93.55 in only his first run. Crashes and wet lead up to the second jump left many riders with a poor second run and Rheeder having clinched the win, used his second run as a show with friend Logan Peat. In second Nicolai Rogatkin threw down like no other with Thomas Genon in third.
