The Cradle Coast Mountain Bike Club has launched the 2015 Cranky Penguin Mountain Bike Marathon! The 70 km Cranky Penguin Marathon is the brainchild of enthusiasts at the Cradle Coast Mountain Bike Club, whose home is the award winning MTB Park in the foothills of the Dial Range in Penguin. Club members knew they had a mountain bike venue up there with the best in the world, so they created a funky new event to bring the world to Penguin. The challenge of climbing from Penguin to just below the summit of Mt Duncan and then feeling the thrill of the descent back to Penguin has enormous appeal to a lot of mountain bikers…”it’s heaven and hell!” The organisers included a short course of just 40km for the not-so-fit – the ‘Not-So-Cranky Penguin. The Cranky Penguin Mountain Bike Marathon enables the international mountain bike community, and local riders, to experience well prepared ‘singletrack’ through unspoilt forest within a short distance from our ever-changing coastlines, along with food, wine and hospitality on the stunning North West Coast. The Cranky Penguin will be conducted biennially, so the 2015 event on 1st February will be your only chance to race the event before 2017 – so don’t miss it. Full details are available via the event website.
