DerbyFest launches for 2020!
DerbyFest is due to land in Blue Derby this April, as a brand-new mountain bike festival comes to town.
Tasmania is on a roll, and it has just been announced that Derby will host a new mountain bike festival for the next three years. DerbyFest – Presented by Shimano, will focus on attracting mountain biking enthusiast from across Australia to Tasmania's mountain bike town. The event runs from 17-19 April 2020.
Tim Watson, General Manager of Dorset Councils says “Given the popularity of Derby with families Australia wide it has been apparent for some time that Derby should hold an annual event which can add to the experience of families and mountain bike visitors. The festival will be a celebration of all that is good about Derby”
Run by Blue Derby Mountain Bike Trails and Dorset Council, the participatory festival is anticipated to become a must-do annual event for Australian and international mountain bike enthusiasts, recreational riders and beginners. Come, ride, stay – and enjoy the trails that make the region so good to visit.
With over 2000 people expected to go this year, there are plans to open up more camping options to comfortably accommodate all the keen bean mountain bikers coming to town. Derby’s main street will be closed for the weekend and transformed into a festival hub showcasing local food producers, craft beers, bands, entertainment and some tents from bike brands as well.
Event director Bede Clifton said “it is important that we create a unique festival experience with global biking brands, sumptuous local produce and true Tasmanian hospitality”
The family friendly festival will have a range of activities from beginner rides, competitions and skill sessions to daily yoga, trick shows and night rides. The festival also has the serious riders in mind too. Dorset Mayor Greg Howard said “for the avid mountain bikers there will be ride with a pro sessions, bike mechanic masterclasses, suspension workshops and of course shuttles to the best trails on the planet.”
Festival tickets and reserved camping spots will be limited and event organisers strongly recommend pre sale tickets be purchased early to avoid disappointment. Early bird pricing will be offered across weekend passes, reserved camping and add on experiences. A full festival agenda, band line ups and MTB experiences are to be released in the coming weeks.
Early Bird Pricing – $30 Adult weekend pass, under 18s free, Camping $15 per night. Tickets should be on sale later this month via the Ride Blue Derby website.
