If you’re packing up and heading away sometime this summer – chances are you’re leaving many of your creature comforts at home. Whether you’re hitting the coast, or climbing into the mountains, it’s still nice to have some of the things you’ enjoy at home.
I’ve been travelling with a small Bluetooth speaker for the past few years, but as good as they are for the size, it’s not really what you’re after if you need to have music play louder than for a really immediate area.
Enter the Fugoo Tough. It’s a ruggedly built wireless Bluetooth speaker which has upto 40hrs of battery life. It’s construction is rocksolid, with aluminium and carbon fibre protecting the speakers – although at 651g it’s more of a speaker to take on holiday, not to take riding.
Connectivity is good, rated at about 10m. With walls and floors, I had it at about 7m before it started to break up.
The volume controls are easy to use, and the sound quality is excellent, thanks to the range of speakers used – for full details check their website.
There’s a micro-USB for charging (and software updates) and the only thing I didn’t like about it was the US voice over telling you when it’s turned on, or when you have turned it off. Otherwise, it was really easy to setup and use. I was happy taking it into the shed when working on bikes, and will be packing it in the car for a trip to the Snowy Mountains over the break. It’s not cheap, but the quality is up there.
