Honestly, what Christmas would be complete without a shiny new bicycle? Whether it’s one of your own grommets, or a niece or nephew of yours, kids bikes are easily the most exciting aspect of any family Christmas get together. Remember when you first got a bike for Christmas? We bet you do, and we’d bet an XTR derailleur that it was one of the happiest days of your life!
The good news is that in 2016, kids bikes are better than they have ever been. The better news is that brands like Specialized are actually building proper mountain bikes for our little tackers, so that they can have just as much fun out on the trails as you do. Looking for a proper bike for your little mate to join you on the singletrack? Then get ready to rip with the brand new 24″ RipRock from Specialized!
“Big tires make for big fun, let alone a boost in confidence, control, and traction. And with our all-new Riprock Comp 24, your kid is going to get all of the above at the hands of 2.8-inch tires. This means that they’ll be able to rip around and get their feet wet trail riding with ease, and with powerful hydraulic disc brakes, they’ll be able to do it safely, too. Add to this a full deck of Shimano shift components, plus a custom air-sprung fork, and you have the perfect mountain bike to get your little ones started on a lifetime of shredding.” – Specialized Bicycles
- The A1 Premium Aluminum frame is lightweight and built to withstand the tough use by kids, while the geometry features an ultra-low standover that makes it easy for your little ones to fit on and grow with the bike.
- Custom SR Suntour XCT fork features 70mm of smooth, air-sprung travel for rough terrain, while a hydraulic lockout will make climbing significantly easier for your little one.
- Super wide Big Roller 24×2.8-inch tires deliver tons of traction, comfort, stability, and fun over all types of terrain.
- Tektro Auriga hydraulic disc brakes provide superior stopping power for increased safety on the road and trail.
- RRP: $849
Aside from featuring a high quality alloy frame and smooth hydraulic disc brakes, the new RipRock also gets some serious traction in the way of its 2.8″ wide tyres. Just like adult mid-fat hardtails, the RipRock promises more grip and more comfort by the way of its fat rubber, which should give any young ripper more confidence to ride the same trails that you do. We totally dig the concept, and along with the air-sprung fork and low standover clearance, this looks to be one dialled mountain bike. The only bummer though? That this wasn’t around when we were 12 years old!
