Hero4

One-upmanship is strong in the digital game, and the arms race in action cameras is next level at the moment. Smaller sizes, sharper vision, and more user-friendly features are rolling into excellent value units.

GoPro are synonymous with action cameras, much like Colgate are to toothpaste and Camelbak are with hydration backpacks. Their new HERO4 models deliver on what you would expect – with better video capture settings, and a built in touch display.

HERO4 Black

Able to capture cinema quality 4K video at 30fps, 2.7K video at 50fps and 1080 video at 120fps, super slow motion and motion picture quality are now available in a tiny package. The audio quality is improved with twice the range as before, and further improvements have been made to low light performance along with an improved interface for actually controlling the thing. It’s the highest performance GoPro yet.

Cameras will be available in early October, for $679.

HERO4 Silver

The same image quality as the HERO4 Black, but with a few less high end capture modes. What really counts is the inclusion of a built-in touch screen display, adding convenience and ease of use.

Cameras will be available in early October, for $549.

Tune it right

The new cameras share a few common features, like Protune, allowing manual control of colour control, ISO limit and exposure controls. With a night photo and night lapse setting, capturing the Milky Way or your own 24hr taillight blur will be easier than before.
