The Packhoe was developed in response to my frustration at seeing 5 minute maintenance jobs out on mountain bike tracks that would take the best part of an hour to do if I had to go home, get tools, put them in the car, drive back, walk in, do the 5 minute job, then walk out and drive home again. I wanted a tool I could carry in my hydration pack and that could do most of the basic track maintenance tasks.

The Packhoe isn’t intended to be used for full-on track construction or major rebuilds, although I’ve been surprised at the jobs I can take on with it. It is a lightweight tool for maintenance and minor repairs.

Easy to carry and quick to assemble it makes it far easier to attend to those small issues that if left untended will eventually become major rebuild jobs.

The handle is made from aluminuim tube with a lightly textured and durable powder coat surface. The bottom spigot is stainless steel to avoid wear at this more heavily loaded joint. All parts are captive – nothing to fall off or lose.

  • Lightweight – just over 1kg.
  • Assembles in seconds (Really!).
  • Head design provides Rake, Mattock, Scraper (hoe) and Pick.
  • 4mm thick hardened steel blade. (McLeod Rake hoes are typically around 2.5mm)
  • All 4 working edges sharpened for efficient cutting.
  • All parts index together to prevent rotation.
  • Extends to 1150mm for comfortable stance.
  • Packs down 450mm long by 200mm wide
  • No loose parts even when packed.
  • Custom lengths on request.
  • Easy replacement of individual parts if needed
  • Fits hydration packs such as Camelback Mule etc
  • Canvas bag included to protect your pack.
  • Drop the head on the ground, socket the handles together, tighten one wingnut and start digging.
