Reviewed: Custom Coloured Oakley Racing Jacket

Oakley have an exciting new product on the market – Riding glasses which you custom build to not only suit your outfit and look smart, but that also include all the features you’ll ever need, plus changeable premium lenses to compliment every type if weather/ light condition for your next ride.

I must say that creating a pair of shades that have exactly all of the elements that you personally selected, including lens type, frame colour and even down to the smaller details like the colour of the Oakley logo, is a process that makes you emotionally attached, even before they arrive in the post.

It was only a short wait and sure enough the Oakley Racking Jackets arrived in on my desk and it was time to ride.

The first thing I noticed, other than that I was looking pretty epic, was that these were serious sunnies.They were a quality build, light in weight and well fitted to the head.

It was a brisk clear Canberra morning with a few low random clouds hugging the Mt Stromlo peaks and the first think I noticed was the quality of these lenses.

Clarity was exceptional and vision super sharp which brought upon a smile on the climb to the top, in anticipation of the descent that lay ahead.

As I got higher I was stoked to note that the lenses hadn’t fogging up at all, so it was great to see that the ventilated lenses were working.

Arriving at the peak junction I stopped to get a drink and enjoy the view – again, fog free. Beyond leading frame design for style, strength and ease of lens changing, Oakley have lens clarity dialled.

I enjoyed complete clarity to the edge of the wider peripheral view, a feature I had read about and can happily confirm is absolutely true.

Now that I was out in the open I felt that true eye protection was being offered by these sunnies with glare reduction and a great balance of the light making my vision and viewing a pleasure.

It was time to switch my lens over. The Switchlock interchangeable lens technology made this process very straight forward and suddenly my eyes were experiencing a whole new world through a Photochromic lens. The clouds and winding trails ahead of me were seen in what was literally a totally different light, I clipped in, set my bikes suspension to descend and enjoyed the ride!

If you are looking for a new set of sunglasses, and can’t find the colours or lens style you want – I can highly recommend the Oakley custom program. Sure, not every choice is available, but a lot are. I’m really happy with what I ended up with.
