The final round of the Subaru MTBA National Series was always going to have an international flavour being run at Toowoomba. The home of mountain bike star Jared Graves, it’s also become the summer training haven for Graves’ mates like Richie Rude.

With a local enduro run the previous weekend, the dry track was quickly becoming pretty blown out, with the course being battered through practice on Friday then seeding on Saturday. That said, riders like Graves, Rude, and South East Queensland locals have ridden and raced the course in all sorts of conditions.

Before race day, Rude had said he just wanted to beat Graves. And today – that’s exactly what he did. Rude beat Graves by 0.75 seconds, with Thomas Crimmins a further 3.77 behind. In the women’s race Tegan Molloy edged out Olympian Lisa Mathison by 1.23sec with Danielle Beecroft a further 1.94 seconds back.

The Junior men continued to be a show of rising star power, with Jackson Frew leading in 2:51:05 – 3rd fastest down the hill. Remy Morton and Baxter Maiwald trailed.
