Shimano hit the trail with S-Phyre XC9

Shimano have hit the ground running with their updated elite cross-country footwear

Shimano have been hard at work redesigning their footwear, and we have already been impressed with the AM9 we tested last year. But Shimano have just announced their new premium XCO shoe – although you might have already spotted it on some feet of fast riders in Rio.

INTRODUCING THE SHIMANO S-PHYRE XC9

The XC9 combines the power-transferring benefits of a road shoe with the rugged qualities needed for off-road racing. The Michelin rubber outsole reduces weight to 325g per shoe (for size 42) and offers increased traction over rocks and roots.

With asymmetrically positioned molded studs providing grip when off the bike, the optional 18mm spikes increase the XC9’s grip in mud when the conditions are truly horrible. Available in blue, yellow and black, sizes 38-48 and wide fitting options.

Stand out from the crowd – but they also come in black.

For increased matchy-matchy effect, the shoes are sold with tall matching socks. These socks are designed with temperature-regulating sole ventilation, cushioning comfort in pressure areas, anatomically contoured construction with woven-in ankle guides, anti-slip heel stability, with an extra-tall cuff that’s guaranteed not to drop.

Selling for $449, the shoes are a premium addition to Shimano's range, and should be available from your Shimano footwear dealer in late October.

Baby brother -the XC7

Not to be out done, the XC7 offers many of the benefits of the premium XC9, but at about half the cost! While the XC7 doesn't boast the asymmetrical fit, or deeper toe spike options, it does feature a single BOA closure, Michelin rubber and an antislip heel – all for $259. They should be available about the same time as the XC9.

We're looking forward to getting our feet into the latest from Shimano.
