TESTED: Atlas - Specialized light kneepad

The Atlas kneepad is for all those who usually throw a little caution to the wind and ride protection less on their trail rides.

Simple and effective, the design of the Atlas is to give you some light protection, deflect smaller rocks and grazes. It also had some bonus placebo effect on this riders fear levels.

As stated the Atlas is much like a leg warmer or a long sock with light padding on and around the knee. The actual make of the fabric close to lycra. There is a ventilation port at the rear of the knee that allows ease of movement as well. All of this is held on by the usual suction strips you might find on lycra. Sizing is a little strange, we were told to go a size down and make sure the fit was tight. Whilst the medium I was given first, did fit, it was beginning to slip toward the end of my ride whilst the small I now use is quite snug to get on, there is no slip throughout the ride.

There is little more to say about the Atlas, it is simple, effective and for your local trail loop of grade two or three it’s that perfect piece of extra protection. I hope they soon make an elbow version. Having injured my elbow previously it would be nice to have something like this compared to an oversized elbow pad.
