TESTED: Track X riding gear
Track X is a small Australian brand, created by riders for riders.
Track X is a small Australian brand, created by riders for riders. The brand has been around since 2008 and their lines of clothing have grown considerably in that time. I got a solid month in on this gear and in lots of ways it hit the mark.
The brand’s ‘about us’ page says that TrackX was conceived by downhill riders, I was really hoping these were not going to be a downhill short used on a trail bike and this is true, they are a trail short. The shorts are very lightweight in construction, whilst still feeling durable and easy to move in. The fabric used is a 4-way stretch material which I feel is a bit of a must now-a-days.
The fit around the waste was nice, I wore a fairly standard medium to accommodate my rump. The shorts fitted snuggly and were comfortable for long rides. The shorts offer a BYO liner which is good for me as I usually wear a SWAT bib to take spares, food, phone etc. I found the crutch a little low for my liking but that’s the style.
Styling wise they are a perfectly simple, black. You can match these with any jersey and look fine on and off the bike which is a nice touch (who likes stopping at the shops in fluoro baggies?). The pockets are nice and deep too, being able to accommodate larger smart phones.
The Flannie jersey is a bit of the downhill riders trail jersey. Using ¾ length sleeves the style stays on point to the recent trends offering more elbow protection. The fit is quite relaxed, so for the riders out there that aren’t about tight kit this is the jersey for you. For myself I did find it a little on the baggier side, but really this is a personal thing (I have been known to frequently don the lycra, so tight clothes are just not an issue).
The material used on the jersey is really nice and breathable though. The ventilation was enough to circulate your warmth and sweat whilst not letting you get cold on the descents with lots of time off the pedals. The styling is definitely something different and I must applaud the guys for thinking outside the box and going for a replica flannelette shirt (who doesn’t love a good flanny?). It’s something different to see on the trail which is refreshing.
TrackX have really delivered on being a brand started by downhillers, now delivering trail gear. This gear is for the gravity rider in mind, offering a more gravity oriented fit but still giving the rider features to use on the trail. I am a big fan of Australian brands hitting the market, especially when they think outside of the box.
TrackX is available online through their website. They have women’s shorts, tees and short sleeve jerseys available as well.
