bighill-eventsThe increasingly popular Victorian Enduro Series will come to end at the grand finale held by Big Hill Events at the Buxton Mountain Bike Park on the 10th of November, with the majority of category podiums yet to be decided. As part of the series riders can choose the 6 or 3 hour option – riding laps around the Buxton MTB course (roughly 12k) for this period of time. Riding solo sound too much like hard work?

Then riders can enter as part of a team of 2 or 3, taking it in turns to complete laps during the 6 hour period.

The VES has seen a increase in riders for 2013 and Big Hill Events are looking forward to hosting the finale to a crowd of over 300 competitors who will enjoy the beautiful singletrack which Buxton has to offer.

Festivities will commence on Saturday 9th of November, with a time trail, eliminator, a huffy toss and a moonlight cinema before settling down for the night in prep for the race on Sunday. The 6 hour race will start at 10am and the 3 hour at 1pm, with the course sampling the best sections of the mtb park including “Off Camber” and “Spider Gully”.

Categories to pay close attention to:

3hr Solo Women – The top 3 leaders have been present at at least 5 round each this year and have made this category really exciting. The top spot is down to Dora Bettridge and Monica Campi who have raced closely together at each round.

6hr Solo Men – Will Geor of Team iRide had been nicely sat in the leading spot until 2012 Vic XC Champ Peter Kutschera began winning the last three rounds to take the leaders place. With the top 3 places – Peter Kutschera, Will Geor and Brad Clake separated by just 15 points anything could happen.

6hr Solo Men 40+ – The top 5 in this category have participated in no less than 5 rounds each, which means this is a very congested bunch! Michael Brill has had some fantastic round wins (including the 1.5 factor points at the Rock Hop), but just 35 points behind is Rod Barnard. There’s also a battle for 3rd place with Peter Shaw and Guy Falla just 13 points off each other.

6hr Mens Team – Apollo Bikes p/b ozriders.com.au have cemented themselves as the winners this year with Bicycles Superstore JDT 1 (who have raced EVERY round) closely behind in 2nd place. But in 3rd and 4th place we have team “Mixed Up” and “Dusty Demons” with just 2 points separating them! Who will make it to that 3rd spot?

3hr Solo Men – Tom Ovens took advantage of the 1.5 factor points at Round 6 moving up in to 2nd spot, just 50 points of leader Rohin Adams. Unfortunately with Warrack Leach having picked up an injury a couple of months ago, and “in between” bikes at the moment, he won’t be able to contest for 2nd or 3rd place in the series. It is likely that Todd Cuthbert will take 3rd place after a string of decent finishes.

The course itself is a 12k intermediate circuit of 100% singletrack which is bermed to an extent and as a result makes for a fun, fast flowing ride. With the event staged in November it will encourage mountain bikers and fair weather cyclists back on to their bikes following the wet winter.

In July 2012 Big Hill Events produced a promo video for the Buxton MTB trail titled “Velo de Buxton”, which shows off the trails and encourages riders of all abilities to ride at Buxton.

Big Hill Events are very proud to be supporting the Charity Group, Challenge; which brings colour and relief to the lives of children and families living with cancer as they face the pressures of a life threatening illness. The event hopes to raise money for Challenge through entry fees and selling Challenge merchandise at the event, along with encouraging riders to donate to this very worthy cause.

Registration prices are low to attract riders of all abilities and start from just $25 for juniors and $50 for adults, as an added bonus the first 200 entrants to register before November 1st will get limited edition Buxton Bootcamp Nemisis socks!

There will be free activities and camping on the Saturday – with a time trial, eliminator, a huffy toss, Buxton Burger round the corner and a projector showing a couple of films in the evening – making it a Big Hill Events weekend.
