The new Pivot reaches mach speed

The new Pivot Mach 429SL Carbon will be the new ride that takes you over the line in first place.

5When racing is the game and weight is the enemy, the new Pivot Mach 429SL Carbon will be the new ride that takes you over the line in first place.

Pivot have been amongst the leaders in carbon mountain bike frames since the introduction of their Mach 429, and each future iteration has seen vast improvements in build quality, design and material. The new Mach 429SL Carbon does not disappoint and uses all of that knowledge and development to push the boundaries even further. Using a new grade of carbon fibre coupled with Pivot’s hollow-core moulding, means the new frame drops a considerable 226g on the already lightweight 429 Mach Carbon, making it one of the lightest and stiffest 100mm 29ers on the market. The end result is a frame that stays true to the tried and tested Mach geometry but weighs in at only 2.4kg for frame and shock. Couple that with 100mm of DW-link performance tuned Fox Float Kashima Factory shock, with the option to run 100-120mm forks and you have one of the fastest, most capable dual suspension 29ers out there.

But it does not stop at the frame and fork, Pivot has ensured the 429SL also leads the way in drivetrain compatibility, being the only one of its kind with full Di2 integration and full internal cable and dropper post routing. Great consideration has been paid to potential upgrades and changes in drivetrain systems, with the cable ports being easy to access with different sets of covers for whichever system you chose. Something you may well look over on the shop floor, but give it time and this thought from Pivot will ensure the 429SL doesn’t become outdated by developments in gearing and brake systems, or prevents you from upgrading different elements because of incompatibility. The easy access and large ports may be something you look over at first, but give it time and these will make your life much easier after long days along dusty trails that we know Australia has plenty of when all you want to do is deal with the hassle of awkward corners and holes that you can’t reach to clean.

Where the 429SL is set to excel is where you need the capability of a long travel all mountain bike, but still need the fast rolling, hill climbing capabilities of a shorter travel xc whippet. Blending the lines between these set ups will allow you to ride Gravity Enduro, whilst not ruling yourself out of competing in xc and marathon events on the same bike. An option that not many other bikes can offer. Run a short stem, 120mm forks and fat rubber and you have a trail bike that can eat up any rocks, drops and roots you can find whilst firing you up the other side. Or chuck on a longer stem, lightweight wheels and some skinny race rubber and you have a more than capable machine for 12 hour and 100km marathons.

With a lighter frame than ever before, paired with all the upgrades in drivetrain compatibility, the Mach 429SL Carbon is one of the most versatile trail bikes available. So if you’re on the market for a new ride, but are torn between the growing number of options we now face in riding, racing and kit, then the Pivot Mach 429SL has to be at the top of your list.
