Cape to Cape. Western Australia’s finest mountain bike stage race is over for yet another year with Mark Tupalski and Bec Henderson taking out overall honours. We were lucky enough to take part in a stage ourselves, the third, as part of our introduction to Shimano’s new XTR Di2 and mechanical offerings and we can tell you the trails are amazing. The videos are too, but don’t take our word for it have a watch through for yourselves.
DAY 1 – Leeuwin Lighthouse to Hamelin Bay
Stage 1 Cape to Cape MTB 2014 40km Cape Leeuwin to Hamelin Bay. Torq rider Mark Tupalski claims a close victory over reigning champion Andy Blair.
DAY 2 – Hamelin Bay to Xanadu Winery
Stage 2 Cape to Cape MTB 2014 40km Hamelin Bay to Xanadu Winery. Giant Bikes Austalia rider Paul van der Ploeg stomps home to victory after another tough day on the Margaret River mountain bike trails.
DAY 3 – Xanadu Winery to Colonial Brewery
In todays 3rd stage of the Cape to Cape MTB 2014 we see once again a change in lead with a strong lead group fighting for a lead of the race. Andy Blair falls behind with an unfortunate loss in the last kilometres of the stage leaving Giant Australias Paul van der Ploeg to duke it out with Brendan Johnston from Trek Australia to the finish line ahead of the Torq team. But the lead once again falls back to Mark Tuplaski.
DAY 4 – Colonial Brewery to Dunsborough
The final stage of four of the toughest days mountain bike racing you’ll encounter in Australia is wrapped up by Elite winners Mark Tupalski and Rebecca Henderson.
